Join the Bats Without Borders 2nd #WingedWednesday Webinar today, with Dr Hernani Oliveira, who will be talking about the Brazilian savannas (Cerrado), which occupy more than 2 million Km2.
This biodiversity hot spot has a rich bat fauna (~120 bat species), but has suffered high deforestation rates mainly due to cattle ranching and soy bean cultivation. Hernani will be discussing the diversity of bats, their interactions, and their threatened Brazilian savanna habitat.

Conservation Lower Zambezi’s new dogs are almost halfway through their 16-week training program with Invictus K9 and they are showing great progress.
The new dogs have been imprinted on ammunition, ivory and pangolin so they are now able to successfully conduct baggage and building searches. The handlers and dogs have been trekking through the Lower Zambezi National Park. This team work is helping them to learn to focus in an environment surrounded by numerous new smells and distractions.

The Zambian bush meat campaign team, This Is Not A Game, hosted a live Facebook question and answer session on Thursday 14 May 2020. The team answered a lot of frequently asked questions from the public.

Saturday 9th May was World Migratory Bird Day, and Zambia participated by joining in Global Big Day – the worldwide bird count. Over 30 teams bird spotted around the country, including from within our National Parks – Kafue, Kasanka, Lochinvar, Lower Zambezi, Mosi-oa Tunya and South Luangwa.
Worldwide, over 50,000 people went birding, keeping a watch out in their own gardens and local spaces and parks – this year having to adhere to their local health advice because of COVID-19.
Totally worldwide:
- 6,479 species recorded
- 62,296 photos were shared with the Macaulay Library
- 1,922 audio recordings were shared with the Macaulay Library
Zambia recorded 416 species, coming in 16th globally, and 2nd in Africa, after Kenya who came 1st, recording an amazing 608 species!
